The American School, founded in 1995, follows the typical American curriculum used in most schools in the United States from pre-school to grade twelve. We believe that the environment is enhanced when students are challenged by quality education. During the scholastic year 2012-2013 the teacher/student ratio was one to seven. While major subjects such as mathematics, science, English, and social studies are important, our ultimate goal is to provide a varied program that also includes physical education, music and art as well as computer science and languages.

For many of our students, Classical Arabic, Arabic social studies as well as Islamic social studies are requirements in order to pass examinations set by the Ministry of Education. These examinations are administered when students are in the ninth and twelfth grades. Students who are non-native speakers of English will need to take the TOEFL or IELTS as well as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). We offer special help in preparing for these examinations.

The American School was the first English medium institution in Yemen officially accredited by the Yemeni Government. This means that our graduates can apply to universities both in Yemen and abroad. In terms of facilities, faculty, and curriculum, we offer the best program available in terms of international education that also meets local requirements. Our graduates presently attend universities throughout North America, Europe, Malaysia, China and the Arab World. The American School has a special cooperative relationship with many universities abroad.
